Mai Nguyen developed her performance work as drawing. Her drawing here is not in the traditional sense but rather akin to the “process of drawing.” In this performance, she is both the process and the drawing tool. It could be said that her movements and actions constitute the process of drawing. The cuts in the paper create light, shadow, line, and texture. Her drawings explore the notion of how the body tells the story of the mind. Her performance art presents an experience of perceiving, affecting, memorising, and encompassing through the interaction between the body and materials. She further explores the journey of the mind in terms of consciousness and unconsciousness in her performance as drawing.
